To Whom it may Concern,
I am writing today to express concern over a radio commercial that your corporation deemed as acceptable advertising. When I tried to call in a complaint, I was directed to a recorded apology that also stated the commercial would be removed.
My problem is that the damage has already been done. I’ve had many problems with your corporation as a whole for a very long time, but this seals the deal. I will never again eat or make any purchase at any McDonald’s in the world. We Americans are ran by our corporations, which is the beauty of capitalism, however McDonald’s, along with other corporations are failing Americans.
McDonald’s depends on consumers to be in a rush and not wanting to spend “excessive” money on a meal. It also depends on children to become addicted to the food offered perpetuating a vicious cycle and contributing to the obesity in America. Your corporation is a large face to the world representing America. And how do you do it? McDonald’s demonstrates a lack of humanity by continuously making over processed food and making it seem like you offer healthy options, by advertising a low calorie count, as if that is the only thing that matters when health is concerned.
To further demonstrate a lack of humanity McDonald’s corporation has now advertised that its food is less risky than petting a pit bull. This commercial was aired at a time when Breed Specify Laws (referred to as BSLs from here on out) are no more just a suggestion, but also coming to fruition. BSLs, are laws regulating what type of breed a person cannot own and are geared towards traditionally more aggressive dogs, such as pit bulls. Once these bans are passed and in effect, people must surrender their pets to be on the correct side of the law. There are many breeds on the list and even if your dog resembles that breed, it HAS to be surrendered. What then do you think happens to these dogs?
No animal is perfect, the responsibility of an animal lies in it’s owner. What the commercial aired was a reinforcement that ALL pit bulls are dangerous. There are a few things that were clearly misunderstood when this commercial was aired. 1- The backlash, which has happened many times over when other companies have made the same mistake. 2- Overpopulation of pit bulls and how loved they truly are… if each person who counts their pit as a family member discontinues eating or drinking anything McDonald’s produces, then how will your financial numbers be effected? 3- Being a responsible corporation. Then again, your menu is a testimony to your care and concern for anything other than your wallets.
Please rest assured that when you receive this letter it will have been posted on my facebook page, my fan page, to my blog, my myspace, I will tweet a link to it and I will post in any dog group and fan pages throughout facebook.
Sincerely yours,
Rebecca
P.S. Please keep the enclosed photos as a memento that I prefer pit bulls to any food or beverage that McDonald’s has to offer.
